Necmettin Erbakan University (NEU) is a state university located in the Konya province of Turkey. The university encompasses 20 faculties, 6 vocational schools, 26 research centers, 4 institutes, 4 foreign language colleges, a Turkish Music Conservatory, and 8 coordinators for international affairs. Currently, NEU has 25,454 undergraduate students, 2,872 postgraduate (master) students, 5,664 doctoral students, and 1,181 students pursuing pedagogic formation, totaling 35,171 students. The academic staff includes 1,909 members, with an additional 149 administrative personnel.
The Ahmet Keleşoğlu Education Faculty at NEU houses a special education department, consisting of over 700 students and nearly 20 academic staff members. The university also hosts a research center dedicated to studying handicapped and disadvantaged individuals. NEU’s Special Education Department aims to champion equal rights and the full integration of disadvantaged and handicapped people into all aspects of social and economic life. Key areas of focus include effective integration, social inclusion of immigrants, social cohesion for immigrants with disabilities, personal development of handicapped immigrants, professional progress of teachers working with disadvantaged individuals, and national and international cooperation on the handicapped, inclusion, and attitudes.
The lecturers in the Special Education Department actively contribute to societal integration and work towards ensuring equal opportunities for disadvantaged individuals. They are committed to investigating and reporting on relevant issues, utilizing NEU’s conducive environment for effective cooperation and communication with stakeholders.
